SAC stands for School Advisory Council. Just in case you haven't heard, our monthly School Advisory Council (SAC) meetings are also our Parent Group meetings. There is no organized Parent Group here at CCS. We have done that in the past, only to have burned out people and then have the Parent Activities come back to the school's administration to complete. We decided to completely combine the two activities and to operate on a committee basis. This allows committees to be established for each function, and those committees then plan and man the parent activities where everyone has a great time. That planning takes place at our SAC meetings. These monthly meetings are also the opportunity for Mr. Miller, or some other member of the SAC, to go over what's happening at school and to help define current events in educational reform locally and at the state and /or national levels. SAC meetings are also where we assign parents to any other committees that may be needed during the year, such as policy review, discipline, etc. SAC meetings are not spent dealing with fundraisers. The school does two or three fundraisers a year, always with your support. That money is primarily used to support professional development for CCS teachers to benefit your child's classroom. The Parent Activities are for fun, and to encourage everyone to come to school and build relationships in a positive activity. We always plan them to break-even, to just cover costs. They have always been great events, and help answer the question "What have you done for fun lately?" SO PUT THESE DATES ON YOUR CALENDAR AND COME TO OUR SAC MEETINGS EVERY MONTH @ 6:00 PM! Check back soon for the 2008 - 2009 school year SAC meeting dates. |
