Turn-off the TV Campaign
Challenge Charter School recently participated in the first annual “Turn-Off the TV” campaign, which ran from January 17th – February 10th. Turn-off the TV Campaign was about students pledging to take a healthy break from television and video games and focusing more on having fun and doing things together with family and friends.

The second annual Project Salad has been a huge success and SO
much fun! The kids enjoyed planting, and monitoring the growth
as the sprouting began!

3rd Graders win State Calendar Competition
CCS is very proud to have three winners! Thomas Lees will be featured as the artist for the month of April. Ryan Jenkins will have his work featured in the month of June and Austin Guerrero will be featured as July's artist!

Book Fair & Ice Cream Social
Wow! Thank you for making Challenge Charter School's annual Scholastic Book Fair: "Reading Is Out of This World" and Ice Cream Social such a success! CCS sixth graders learned first-hand about running a business including, taxes, inventory and customer service.
Celestial
Phoenix rises to the Challenge!
Challenge Charter School's Celestial Phoenix Team rises to the challenge! CCS takes first place during the December 7th, 2011 Semi-Finals for the Honeywell Fiesta Bowl Aerospace Challenge and they move on to the finals!

Lego Education Robotics Program
CCS is excited to announce that we recently received an Ebay Foundation Grant! A big thank you to Tony Schwartz (CCS parent) for nominating us and to Technology Teacher, Mrs. Gallagher for writing the Lego Education WeDO Grant!

One For Officer Bud
In honor of Officer Bud�s continuous support for CCS,

Multicultural
Unity Day
On October 22, Challenge Charter School families joined together in unity to share some of the unique traditions, dances, foods, arts and crafts that make up their heritages. The diverse CCS family cultures include countries from almost all seven continents.
Fuel
Up to Play 60 Events
The Fuel Up to Play 60 Leadership Team is made up of CCS 4th - 6th graders that have volunteered to meet twice a month when they discuss and plan "Health + Activity" promoting events for the school.

School Bus Night
Thank you CCS families for joining us and making Magic School Bus Night such an enchanting and spectacular event! Each building came alive with hands-on science adventures for families to enjoy together.
2010 - 2011 School Year
Science
Fair
We are very proud of all of our Science Fair participants. Our teachers worked hard to prepare students for the Science Fair by completing in class experiments and studying the scientific method. The students took what they learned in the classroom and combined it with an immense amount of creativity and effort.
Project
Salad
Science literally came to life this year with "Project Salad". Project Salad was a school-wide gardening venture, which began in mid-October. CCS created a gardening space, and the Home Depot generously donated a watering system, plants, tools, and gardening experts to help our gardens get a good start.
Reading
Rocks!
January 20th was a day to celebrate the love of reading. CCS had its first ever Reading Rocks Parade. Staff and students got into the spirit by dressing up as one of their favorite book characters and parading around the campus showing off their creative costumes and the books which featured their characters.

WeatherBug Story
CCS 4th grade meteorologists spotlighted on News Channel 3, Good Morning Arizona! Challenge Charter School is one of the only schools in the state that has invested in the opportunity for our kids to have a WeatherBug station here on campus.

School Bus Night
October 15, 2010 - Miss Frizzle, science teacher extraordinaire, took a break from her teaching duties at Walkerville Elementary to join us all for a fantastic evening of hands on science fun at our annual Magic School Bus Night.
Our Playground is Fixed!
Thank you again to all of the generous contributors to our Project Playground Shade Fundraiser! The new shades have been installed!
2009 - 2010 School Year

Wins the 2009 Aerospace Challenge
December 31, 2009 - NASA's Newest, from CCS, wins the 2009 Honeywell Fiesta Bowl Aerospace Challenge. Our team beat out over 230 teams in this academic competition that challenged students to design a base on the moon and mine Helium-3, a fuel source used in nuclear fusion.

School Bus Night
October 16, 2009 - Magic School Bus Night is a night to celebrate science and showcase the different Core Knowledge topics our students are learning in class. So step inside, come on and ride the Magic School Bus and you'll see how much fun science can be!

Grade Greek Olympics
September 29, 2009 - Second grade wraps up their studies on ancient Greece by holding their very own Olympic Games. Events included the shot put, discus throw, suit of armor race, and the foot race.
Founder's
Day
September 23, 2009 - CCS staff and students gathered to celebrate our school's history and honor Mr. and Mrs. Miller during our second annual Founder's Day event. This year, Mr. and Mrs. Miller were contestants on "This Is Your School", our version of the 1950's game show, "This Is Your Life".
Virtuous
Voyage
September 18, 2009 - Students set sail on the Virtuous Voyage, searching the school for treasure, learning about the CCS Core Virtues, and having a great time while doing it. This year's voyage coincided with International Talk Like a Pirate Day and we enjoyed dressing and talking like pirates. "Come aboard matey, we be expecting you!"
