Fuel Up to Play 60
This is Challenge Charter School’s 1st year participating with
the Fuel Up to Play 60 program. Fuel up to Play 60 was launched
by the National Dairy Council, your local Dairy Council, and the
NFL. The U.S. Department of Agriculture has joined the effort to
encourage students to get involved in making positive, healthy
changes in their schools. Working with adults, students can play
a key role in helping to increase both access to appealing,
nutritious foods and opportunities for physical activity. Fuel
Up to Play 60 provides action ideas, resources, and school wide
incentives and rewards for making these healthy improvements.
The program engages students to take the lead in their own
health and wellness.
The Fuel Up to Play 60 Leadership Team is made up of CCS 4th-6th
graders that have volunteered to meet twice a month when they
discuss and plan “Health + Activity” promoting events for the
school. Check out the fun descriptions and exciting pictures
below from the events that the Fuel Up to Play 60 Leadership
Team has hosted so far this year!
October 21, 2011
On Friday, October 21st, the Leadership Team “kicked
off” their first event: "Fuel Up to Play 60 Pep Rally." The
assembly audience was completely star struck and overwhelmed
with excitement when three NFL players, David Macklin (NFL
cornerback), Todd McMillon (former NFL cornerback), and Travis
Brown (former NFL quarterback), along with Brian O'Neil (trainer
of CCS’s O'Neil Fitness after school program), generously
donated their time to CCS students and staff in presenting
quality information about their careers and positive advice on
staying active and healthy. Special thanks to Mr. Hoffman, the
Fuel Up to Play 60 Leadership Team, and CCS staff for providing
such an inspiring event!!

October 22, 2011
Then on October 22, they followed with a second event: “Healthy Tailgating Party.” Thanks to the participating families, students, and staff, the team was able to provide yummy but healthy snacks like carrots, celery, granola bars, assorted nuts, fruits, string cheese, and plenty of water! Thank you CCS for "fueling up and playing 60!" Great job Leadership Team for teaching the CCS families about the importance of staying active and eating healthy!
